There are many stories of ghostly incidents in and around the Hall. The most renowned is the story of the ‘Mistletoe Bride' (see also Bramshill, Hampshire). On her wedding day, while playing hide and seek with her groom and guests, the bride hid in an oak chest in a distant part of Marwell Hall. However, the chest was self-locking, and the unfortunate young woman was imprisoned alive. The groom and guests searched high and low, but her cries were not heard and her remains were not discovered until many years later. It is said that the sounds of the wedding guests who can be heard ‘frantically rushing around the corridors searching for the missing bride’. Another apparition associated with the Hall is none other than Jane Seymour, third wife of King Henry VIII.
